Tottenham Hotspur striker Heung-Min Son has been named ‘Best Footballer in Asia’ for the 5th consecutive year and seventh time in his career.

Journalists from Chinese sports newspaper Titan Sports voted for Son, 29, after a sensational 2021 which saw him score 17 goals and secure 13 assists for his club.

The South Korean opened his account in 2021 by scoring his 100th goal for Spurs against Leeds United in a 3-0 victory on January 2nd.

Forming a lethal partnership with Harry Kane, the pair combined for a record-breaking 14 goal contributions in the Premier League and Son ended the 2020/2021 season with his best goal tally for Tottenham – 22 in all competitions – and a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for the first time.

He was also in fine form for his country, scoring four goals in seven international appearances as South Korea captain across the calendar year.

Son commits to Spurs

During a summer of change at the club and uncertainty over the future of fellow-striker Kane, Son signed a new four-year contract with Tottenham until 2025.

Kicking off the 2021/2022 season with the only goal in a win against reigning Premier League champions Manchester City, he further solidified his status as a fan favourite amongst the Spurs faithful who voted him the club’s Player Of The Year in 2019 and 2020.

Following the appointment of Antonio Conte, Son kicked on, contributing to seven goals in the final six Premier League games of the year, including a goal in his 300th appearance for the club in their 2-2 draw against Liverpool on December 19th at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
