Robert Lewandowski Sensationally Set To Miss Out On 2021 Ballon D’Or

A new report says that the Ballon D’Or results are in and it’s bad news for fans of Robert Lewandowski with the Polish marksman expected to finish 3rd.

The official announcement is not made until Monday 29th of November with the best male and female footballer of the year named at an official ceremony.

Many fans expected Lewandowski to be named the winner after having statistically the best year to date of his career. The 33 year-old broke Gerd Muller’s nearly 50-year record of scoring 40 goals in a single Bundesliga season as he led the line for Bayern Munich to capture another league title.

The 2021/22 season has already seen Robert Lewandowski continue his scintillating form as he has netted 25 goals in 19 matches already as part of Julian Nagelsman’s side.

Despite this, Spanish journalist Josep Pedrerol has reported that Lewandowski has been pipped by not one but two players finishing ahead of him in the race for the sought-after crown.

Pedrerol has reported that French striker Karim Benzema – who recently hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons – will finish second, pushing Lewandowski into third place. Benzema has had a banner 2021 as well, helping France win the 2021 Nations League and he has netted 10 goals in La Liga already this season.

As for the man who will walk away with the top prize, Josep Pedrerol suggests that is a Magnificent Seven for a certain Argentinian:

“Messi, Benzema, Lewandowski…”

If Lionel Messi is unveiled as the winner, it will be a 7th award for the Paris Saint-Germain player. Messi has previously won the crown in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2019. The wait for a Ballon D’Or for Lewan-goal-ski looks set to go on.
