Newcastle United are reportedly looking to splash the cash once more as they line-up a shock move for a former Inter Milan star.

While Newcastle have already added Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier to their ranks this January, it seems they’re not ready to put their chequebook away just yet. In search of further firepower in their bid to stay in the Premier League, the club have now apparently turned their attention to Mario Balotelli.

Speaking to Turkish daily newspaper Fanatik, the President of Balotelli’s current club Adana Demirspor, Murat Sancak said that Newcastle are considering making an offer but no official approach has been made.

“An Arab team made an offer for Balotelli yesterday. We refused,”

“We said, we do not intend to sell.

“Newcastle United were considering signing Balotelli, but so far they have not made us an offer.

“There is an exit clause in his contract. I will not tell you the number.”

Balotelli has hit a total of eight goals in 20 appearances since moving to the newly promoted Turkish Super Lig club in the summer. The 31-year-old hasn’t played in England since being sold by Liverpool in 2016 after an incredibly underwhelming spell which yielded just one goal.

In the years that followed his Liverpool exit, the Italian star turned out for Nice, Marseille, Brescia, and Monza in Serie B.

Newcastle currently sit 19th in the Premier League with 12 points from 20 games, winning just once. That win coming on December 4th over fellow strugglers Burnley.

The club are also seemingly interested in another ex-Premier League star, with reports suggesting that they have had a £41.3 million bid for Eden Hazard accepted by Real Madrid.
