Mikel Arteta Set To Miss Arsenal’s Crucial Clash Against Manchester City

Mikel Arteta is set to miss Arsenal’s upcoming crucial clash against league leaders Manchester City on New Year’s Day after testing positive for COVID-19.

Arsenal FC have officially released a statement confirming that San Sebastián born former Spain international, Mikel Arteta, has tested positive for COVID-19, the London based clubs press release confirmed the awful news whilst taking the opportunity to wish Mikel the best in his recovery.

“Mikel is isolating in line with Government guidelines and we wish him well.”

15,186 COVID-19 tests were submitted in the Premier League between December 20th and December 26th returning a record 103 positive cases within the Premier League.

Amongst other suspected names, Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Romelu Lukaku have all tested positive for COVID-19 throughout December.

The Premier League released an official statement earlier in December, commenting:

“The safety of everyone is a priority and the Premier League is taking all precautionary steps in response to the impact of the Omicron variant,”

Mikel Arteta is sure to be a huge miss to ‘The Gunners’ as they look to continue their impressive run of form with five wins on the bounce, scoring 19 goals and conceding just two, and seeing London’s most historic club climb up to fourth just six points off Liverpool & Chelsea in second and third respectively.
