Everton’s Lucas Digne is set to leave Everton for Aston Villa after the clubs struck a deal worth up to £25m for the full-back.
BBC reports that Digne is set for a switch to Villa Park while Everton have inquired about Aston Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi.
Despite an electric start for Everton, the French left back has fallen out of favour since Rafael Benitez took charge of the club. Two new full backs have joined in the January window, with Scotland right back Nathan Patterson joining from Rangers and Ukraine left back Vitaliy Mykolenko arriving at Goodison Park for a combined fee of around £30 million.
Meanwhile, Digne would become the second high-profile signing for Aston Villa, who have completed the loan signing of Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho.
The deal for the Brazil international includes an option to buy the 29-year-old for £33m at the end of the season. Although the club are reportedly paying less than 50% of Coutinho’s wages until then.
Last week Benitez said France international Digne “doesn’t want to be here”, having not started for Everton since 1 December. Several clubs were interested in the left-back, including Newcastle United, Chelsea and unnamed Serie A clubs, but Aston Villa are the first club to have a bid accepted for the plater.
It’s reported that El Ghazi moving the other way would be a separate move, with Villa valueing the player at £15m, and Everton keen on taking him on loan until the end of the season rather than as a permanent signing.
El Ghazi signed for Villa in 2019 after a season on loan at Villa Park from Ligue 1 side Lille, and the 26-year-old has made 71 Premier League appearances for the Villains, scoring 15 goals.
