Barcelona have had a swap deal rejected as they attempt to sign former Real Madrid and Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid – with Juventus rejecting the move.
Following a report from AS that Barcelona have made Alvaro Morata, currently on a two-year loan at Juventus from Atletico Madrid, their top target for January, it’s now been reported that a swap deal has been rejected.
Football Italia reports that Juventus have rejected the offer of a swap deal from Barcelona for Morata which would see Dutch forward Memphis Depay move the other way.
Juve signed the striker on a two-year loan from Atletico Madrid for €20m with option to buy for a further €35m in June 2022. While the move does not look likely to be made permanent, Juventus rejected the offer of taking Depay in a swap for the remainder of the loan spell.
“Sources tell Football-Italia.net that Barca offered Depay in an exchange deal, but Juventus coach Allegri rejected the option.
“He is looking for a classic centre-forward and is unconvinced by Depay’s recent form and injury record too.”
Barcelona manager Xavi has made no secret of his desire to bring former Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata to Camp Nou, but it remains to be seen whether a deal will be worked out between the three clubs involved.
Barcelona have already signed Ferran Torres for £55 million, but will have to wait to register the player as they seek to offload some fringe players.
