Barcelona Target Premier League Striker To Replace Sergio Aguero

Barcelona are set to swoop for a Premier League striker to replace the retiring Sergio Aguero, a new report has suggested.

With recent reports suggesting Manchester City legend Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero is set to be forced into retirement for health reasons, Barcelona are set to swoop for Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani, according to The Mirror.

Cavani has fallen out of favour at Manchester United with Cristiano Ronaldo taking centre stage, with Marcus Rashford often being preferred in the central role as backup.

Barcelona are reportedly set to offer up to £5 million for the 34-year-old.

Edinson Cavani joined Manchester United in 2020, but has struggled to nail down a starting position for any extended run of games, despite bagging 11 goals – including a 40-yard lob.

The Uruguayan was initially given the iconic number seven shirt. That number, of course, was relinquished to the returning Ronaldo this summer.

Meanwhile, 33-year-old Sergio Aguero looks set to retire after less than a season with Barcelona, with the former Manchester City striker forced off just 42 minutes into his first home start for the club against Alaves.

The Argentine striker was rushed to hospital after experiencing chest pains and breathing difficulties.

Aguero had moved on a free transfer after his contract expired at Manchester City, where he became one of the Premier League’s all-time greatest forwards and the league’s fourth top goalscorer of all time with 184 goals, behind only Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Andy Cole.

Most iconically Aguero scored the winning goal for Manchester City against QPR to secure The Citizens the Premier League title in the final game of the season usurping rivals Manchester United at the final stage of the competition.

Hooked on Sport would like to wish Sergio Aguero the best of health as he looks to tackle his heart problems following his retirement from professional football.
