Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles Set For Roma Loan Switch

Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles is set to complete a loan move to Roma for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old England international will travel to Italy to undergo a medical ahead of the move after the Gunners agreed a deal with the Serie A side.

Maitland-Niles has made 11 appearances this season, but has only started two Premier League games. However, even that looked unlikely when, in August, he voiced his frustration with a lack of playing time at Arsenal and even posted on his Instagram stories that he wanted to go to a club that wanted him.

Everton were hopeful of signing him during the summer transfer window after he spent the second half of last season on loan at West Brom, but the deal did not go through.

He said on social media: “All I wanna do is go where I’m wanted and where I’m gonna play.”

AS Roma has a strong English contingent with manager Jose Mourinho swooping for Tammy Abraham, who joined up with Chris Smalling and Maitland-Niles’ former Arsenal team-mate Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Meanwhile, another English star looks set to make the switch to Serie A with Napoli closing in on a deal for Manchester United centre back Axel Tuanzebe, who is currently on loan at Aston Villa.
